The UN Petite Forest Network is hosted by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in partnership with Earthwatch Europe.
Our mission: Greener cities, global impact
The UN Petite Forests Network is a global movement dedicated to transforming urban spaces with small forests and forest gardens. Using compact, sustainable solutions, we are creating vibrant, resilient cities and empowering communities to connect with nature and act on environmental challenges.
Petite Forests are dense, native plant clusters designed for small spaces, inspired by methods like Miyawaki. These green pockets improve air quality, reduce heat islands, and promote biodiversity—turning plazas, streets, and schoolyards into thriving ecosystems.
Petite forests also address inequalities in access to nature, especially in underserved urban neighborhoods, offering a practical way to make green space accessible to all.
