Global Initiatives and Approaches

The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030 is a rallying call for nature protection and ecosystem revitalisation around the world. With a call for building #GenerationRestoration, the global initiative aims to halt the degradation of ecosystems and to restore them to achieve global Sustainable Development Goals for the benefit of people and nature.
 

A number of global forest landscape restoration initiatives have been launched to encourage governments, private businesses, and local communities around the world to restore millions of hectares of deforested and degraded land to offer multiple benefits and land uses, provide environmental services that will benefit people and biodiversity and to improve resilience to climate change.
 

Forest landscape restoration is gaining momentum and regional initiatives are essential avenues for forest landscape restoration across urban and rural spaces.
 

Since the launch of the Bonn Challenge in 2011, leading international organizations and NGOs have developed guidelines to support countries in implementing forest landscape restoration at all levels, from the local to the global.
