Forest Information Systems

The forest sector has witnessed a significant transformation through the integration of digital technologies in recent years.  Embracing these technologies not only enhances productivity and profitability but also fosters a more resilient and ecologically balanced forest ecosystem for future generations.

Currently the Forestry and Timber Section of the UNECE is running a capacity building project to promote forest information systems in the Caucasus and Central Asia. A part of this project will be the study on forest information systems. 

The general national strategy for building an information system can be devised and implemented at different levels. Therefore, the planning and implementation framework should be adapted accordingly, but a common backbone can be defined.

The e-learning course was designed for national analysts, policymakers and forestry professionals to transfer knowledge for developing forest information systems.
